What this company offers

UnitedHealthcare insures the Medicare Supplement plans sold under the AARP name: the AARP Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans. Its AARP plans are sold in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Which plan letters does UnitedHealthcare offer?

In most states, UnitedHealthcare offers AARP Medicare Supplement Plans A, B, C, F, G, K, L, and N.

Keep the usual rules in mind:

  • Plans C and F can only be sold to people who were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.
  • Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Wisconsin use their own plan designs, so the letters above do not apply in those states.
  • The exact set of plans you can buy depends on your state.

How a Medigap plan works

A Medicare Supplement plan works with Original Medicare. You must have Part A and Part B. Medicare pays its share first. Then the supplement plan pays its share of the costs Medicare left behind, based on the letter you chose.

These plans do not include prescription drug coverage. For drug coverage, add a separate Part D plan: Medications and drug coverage.

A Medigap plan cannot be used with a Medicare Advantage plan. If you are weighing the two paths, start here: Medicare Advantage plans.

Every plan with the same letter covers the same benefits, from every company. What differs is the price and the company. See what each letter covers: Medicare Supplement plans, explained.
